Background Details
Papua New Guinea PSC Simbu is a vibrant and distinctive micro-lot coffee grown in the Simbu Province of the Central Highlands. Produced by smallholder farmers at approximately 1,600 meters above sea level, this coffee reflects the care, tradition, and growing expertise of local families who cultivate coffee on small 1–2 hectare “garden” farms. Coffee has been a vital crop in Simbu since its introduction in the early 1950s, and today it remains deeply important to the region and its people.
This lot was processed at the Kongo washing station and carefully prepared as a fully washed coffee, allowing its structure, clarity, and fruit-forward complexity to shine. In the cup, Papua New Guinea PSC Simbu offers an exotic and well-balanced profile with intense notes of raspberry, strawberry, citrus, lemon, and nectarine, supported by a lively brightness and refined sweetness.
Papua New Guinea PSC Simbu
PSC stands for Premium Smallholder Coffee, a designation that reflects the exceptional quality and attention given to coffees grown by independent producers. Each farmer carefully monitors their small coffee garden to produce top-grade cherries, and this particular lot was graded as A, indicating a top-quality selection known for its balance, cleanliness, and flavor expression.
Processing & Quality
The fully washed process helps highlight the coffee’s clean, transparent character while preserving its elegant fruit and floral qualities. The aroma opens with sweet brown sugar, honey, and maple syrup, layered with hints of rose jasmine and dark chocolate. In the cup, those fragrant qualities give way to a complex and lively flavour experience that is both exotic and approachable — a beautifully expressive coffee that showcases the unique potential of Papua New Guinea.
